Hongoeka Bay is the locality at the northern end of the Plimmerton coastline.
The bay's coastal area north used to be the quarry, where thousands of truckloads of hard rock were mined for use in roading and other projects around Porirua City and beyond. Access was through residential streets, which had a little to do with the closure of the quarry early this century.

Most of the land is Maori Land, with "Maori Land Court" right of ways along the coast and up one ridge. The roadway from the Hongoeka sign at the entrance northwards is all private.
