Get the Train is a campaign for the reintroduction of regional rail passenger trains on the Otago section of the Christchurch to Invercargill railway, called the 'Main South Line'.
The group began with a campaign to re-introduce the North Coast commuter rail service from Dunedin to towns and villages such as Purakaunui, Waitati, Warrington, Seacliff, Waikouaiti, and Palmerston, launched on 17 September 2008 at a public meeting in Waitati. The campaign was conceived by car-poolers in Purakaunui.
Following interest from other communities to the south of Dunedin, such as Mosgiel, the campaign is developing a wider scope.
Other campaigners in New Zealand are promoting the re-instatement of long-distance express trains, such as the Southerner, in contrast with the local/regional focus of Get the Train.
